Welcome to Bayonne

About

From the beautiful Bayonne Bridge—one of the longest arched steel bridges in the world—and the scenic parks, to the renowned views along the riverfront and bustling thoroughfares, Bayonne is packed with sights to see and things to do.

The city of Bayonne is located on a peninsula in Hudson County which is bound by Newark Bay to the west, the Kill Van Kull to the south, New York Bay to the east and Jersey City to the north. The name “Bayonne” was likely derived from the city’s location between the two bays, or after the city of Bayonne in France, which is also situated on land where two rivers meet. During the 1870s, Bayonne experienced rapid industrial development when oil companies built refineries and pipeline terminals in Constable Hook, making it one of the largest oil refinery centers in the world.

Transportation

Transportation services in Bayonne have improved greatly since the installation of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system. Residents of Bayonne have access to bus and light rail services that connect with Jersey City’s PATH and ferry services to downtown and midtown Manhattan as well as Newark and Harrison, New Jersey.
